Nicki Sucec is a native of San Diego. She received her B.A. in Visual Arts from the University of California at San Diego where she studied under such artists as Alan Kaprow, Helen Mayer Harrison, Newton Harrison, and Eleanor Antin.
Influenced by the work of San Diego-area sculptor and architect James Hubbell, Sucec went on to learn traditional metals techniques. She attended extended workshops in blacksmithing and copper enameling in Santa Fe, NM and did post baccalaureate work in metalsmithing and jewelry with Helen Shirk and Arline Fisch, at San Diego State University.
Sucec’s recent work,—some public, some private—is often conceptual and focuses on such issues as social stigmatization, economic exclusion, and environmental degradation. She recently completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in Sculpture from the University of Washington in Seattle and is a proud member of the San Diego-based artist collective, Public Address.
